Advanced Measurements

SmartPACS OrthoPlan® includes several advanced measurement tools which will guide a user through performing the measurement and will result in several calculations based on the user provided measurement points. All measurements should be performed on calibrated images. Once the measurements are complete, the user may save the planned image as an annotation overly or as a new image as discussed here.

The OrthoPlan® Advanced Measurement Tools can be added to the Viewer toolbar in two ways. The Measurement Group will contain all advanced measurements under a drop down menu.

Advanced Measurement Tools

If only one of the tools is needed for the practice, instead of adding the group, the user can add each tool to the toolbar individually as needed.

TPLO#

A walkthrough of the different Cut tools and how to interact with cut bone fragments.

TPLO

The Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) tool will start a walk-through that will guide you in drawing the correct lines needed to perform the advanced measurement. This is an interactive walk-through and instructions will be displayed on the screen. It is important to note the user must complete all steps of the measurement prior to making adjustments to the endpoints.

  1. Start with a calibrated image.
  2. Zoom and Pan the image to the area of interest. Include the Talus in the view.
  3. Press the TPLO Advanced Measurement Tool. Instructions will be displayed based upon the Measurement User Preference settings defined here.
    1. Start the TPLO Measurement by drawing a line from the center of the Talus to the center of the Intercondylar Eminence. This is a drag and drop.
    2. Next, mark the cranial aspect of the tibial plateau with a single click. This completes the TPLO Measurement assistant.

The system automatically places a line across the tibial plateau at a 25-degree angle. The Caudal end will likely need adjustment.

The default blade size is automatically placed at the defined user preference location. For more information on how to modify the default blade size or automatic placement location, click here.

The blade size can be adjusted by scrolling the mouse wheel up or down while the measurement is selected.

The blade location can be adjusted by pressing the yellow center grab point and dragging the blade to the new location.

CBLO

The CORA Based Leveling Osteotomy (CBLO) tool will start a walk-through that will guide you in drawing the correct lines needed to perform the advanced measurement.

  3. Press the CBLO Advanced Measurement Tool. Instructions will be displayed based upon the Measurement User Preference settings defined here.
    1. Start the CBLO Measurement by drawing a line from the center of the Talus to the center of the Intercondylar Eminence. This is a drag and drop.
    2. Next, draw a line bisecting the medullary canal with a drag and drop.
    3. Finally, mark the cranial aspect of the tibial plateau with a single click. This completes the CBLO Measurement assistant.

The system automatically places a line across the tibial plateau at a 25-degree angle. The Caudal end will likely need adjustment.

The default blade size is automatically placed at the defined user preference location. For more information on how to modify the default blade size, click here.

The blade size can be adjusted by scrolling the mouse wheel up or down while the measurement is selected.

The blade location is fixed to move along the CORA line and can be adjusted by pressing the yellow center grab point and dragging the blade to the new location.

Once the position of the blade is finalized, the location of D1 and D2 is expected.

TTA#

CBLO

The Tibial Tuberosity Advancement (TTA) tool tool will start a walk-through that will guide you in drawing the correct lines needed to perform the advanced measurement. This is an interactive walk-through and instructions will be displayed on the screen. It is important to note the user must complete all steps of the measurement prior to making adjustments to the endpoints.

  1. Start with a calibrated image.
  2. Zoom and Pan the image to the area of interest.
  3. Press the TTA Advanced Measurement Tool. Instructions will be displayed based upon the Measurement User Preference settings defined here.
    1. Start the TTA Measurement by selecting three points to form a circle along the Femoral Condyle head.
    2. Next, select three points along the proximal tibia to form a circle.
    3. Continue the measurement by pressing on the location of the patella tendon.
    4. Finally, press to create a point on the front of the tibia. This completes the TTA Measurement assistant.
