Type of Cytology selection

Under Order info select the Type of Cytology

Path Review

Blood Smear and urine sediment reviews

  • Select Source from the drop-down menu and # of slides (1 or 2)

CSF

Requires special cytocentrifuge

  • The source will be automatically selected when CSF order is chosen

FNA Cytology

For FNA and impression smear samples (any site)

  • Select a source from the drop-down menu or free text you own source

  • Select the # of slides for this source (1 or 2)

  • To add additional sources (up to 4 total sources may be submitted), click the + button. Add Source and # of slides.

    If you try to select the same source (in the example above Skin/Subcutaneous), this selection will be greyed out. This is to ensure proper selection of sources vs # of slides. You may still free text in this sample source if necessary.

  • If you did not intend to add an extra source and wish to delete it, press the Remove button to the right of the source.

Fluid Cytology

Body cavity fluids, cystic fluids

  • Select a source from the drop-down menu or free text you own source. Optional boxes for protein measurement and cell count (some fluids can be run on in-house analyzers) will appear.

  • Select the type of preparations you will submit (see Fluid Sample Preparation). Both a direct/unconcentrated and a sediment/concentrated preparation are highly recommended for all fluids. Cytospin preparations require a special cytocentrifuge.
